Professor Robert Legros, ing., Ph.D., FCAE
Chair Holder / Research Chair on Advanced Waste Recovery
Department of Chemical Engineering
Professor Robert Legros is a Chemical Engineering professor at Polytechnique Montreal with a long experience in industrial process development. He is the Chair holder of the Research Chair on Advanced Waste recovery. He is a well-recognized expert in the fields of waste and biomass conversion processes, powder technology, multiphase contacting systems, simultaneous heat and mass transfer phenomena, drying and purification systems. Dr. Legros has largely contributed to the understanding of fundamental aspects involved during gas-solids contacting. His work enables to gain insight into the behavior of complex solids (such as solid waste, biomass and foodstuffs) during various thermal/physical/chemical processing. His innovative modeling approach, combining hydrodynamics behavior, heat and mass transfer phenomena, together with chemical and physical reaction kinetics, has contributed to the development of innovative technologies.
Dr. Legros has trained a large number of highly qualified personnel and has published extensively in his field. He is very active in the Canadian Chemical Engineering community: Member of the Canadian Academy of Engineering since 2012, President of the Canadian Society of Chemical Engineering (CSChE) in 2010-11, President of the Association of Canadian Chairs of Chemical Engineering (ACCCE) in 2006, Associate Editor of the Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering between 1998 and 2003. He was the Head of the Chemical Engineering department at Polytechnique Montreal from 2003 to 2009.
